The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has informed prospective corps members that they will not be mobilized for national duty until they get clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD).
The warning comes as the organization prepares to mobilize a new batch of prospective corps members while simultaneously stepping up efforts to protect their safety during orientation camp journeys.
In a public notification posted on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC announced that NERD clearance is now required for all prospective corps members.
The scheme encouraged potential corps members to finish the process as soon as possible to minimize delays in mobilization.
It also warned that failure to obtain the clearance could delay mobilization into the national service program.
“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation.”
Stressing the mandatory nature of the requirement, the NYSC stated, “NERD clearance is compulsory for mobilization. RD clearance, no NYSC!!!”
Although the scheme did not disclose any information regarding the approval process in the notice, the order indicates a tougher verification regime as the next orientation exercise approaches.
The latest warning comes just hours after the NYSC announced the mobilization of another batch of potential corps members for the 2026 Batch ‘B’ service year, asking institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required papers prior to the orientation exercise.
It also follows the scheme’s recent safety caution, which warned potential corps members not to travel to orientation camps at night.
The NYSC recommended they break their journeys whenever possible and stay in safe locations or designated military and security formations if available, rather than risk travelling after dark.
The updated recommendations reflect the scheme’s efforts to strengthen both the integrity of its mobilization process and the safety of potential corps members amidst rising security concerns on Nigerian roadways.
As mobilization activities accelerate, prospective corps members are asked to complete all necessary registration and verification procedures, including the newly stressed NERD clearance, before reporting to orientation camp.
