The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man named Godwin for allegedly defiling two minors in Ogale, Eleme Local Government Area, of the state.
Chronicle NG gathered on Thursday that the suspect was arrested on Monday at his home by Eleme Police Division operatives in response to a formal complaint submitted by the girls’ parents, aged 13 and 11, respectively.
The father of the older minor, Cletus, whose other names were concealed, claimed that the suspect’s method of operation was to send the two youngsters on an errand and then welcome them into his room after they returned with the item he had ordered them to purchase.
According to him, “Then he (suspect) will lock the door, turn up the volume of his music, and assault the children.”
Cletus further said that following the incident, the suspect threatened to severely punish the minor ladies if they revealed what had occurred to them.
When contacted, Blessing Agabe, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the suspect’s arrest and said the investigation is ongoing.
However, Agabe stated that the police had yet to get the medical report following the medical form given to the girls’ parents to determine the authenticity of the charges.
She stated, “Yes, I can confirm the arrest of the suspect. He is in our custody. However, the police issued a medical form to allow the girls to undergo an examination.
“As I speak to you, we are still waiting for the results because they will show if there was penetration and so on. If that happens, then we (the police) will transfer the case to the appropriate bureau.
“So we are still investigating, and the form we have issued is part of that investigation.”
