Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have thwarted several kidnapping attempts and saved the rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, alongside multiple other victims in various operations in Zamfara State.

Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the media information officer for Operation FANSAN YAMMA, revealed this in a statement released on X on Tuesday.

According to the statement, the first incident happened early on July 28 when troops responded to a distress call about terrorist activity near Tsohon-Tasha Street in the Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

Before attempting to kidnap Dr. Yusuf and his family, Danja claimed that the attackers had broken into the rector’s home, killing his private security guard and hurting another resident.

He said, “Troops arrived promptly and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to flee and abandon their victims. The Rector and his family were rescued and unharmed.”

In a different operation that day, the military spokesperson said, troops on night patrol responded to a distress call from the Tungan Dorawa in Barkeji Village, where terrorists were trying to kidnap locals.

He claimed that the forces pursued the escaping suspects, engaged them, and stopped the kidnapping attempt despite the challenging terrain that at first hindered their progress.

Danja further revealed that troops were fighting another gang of militants in the same neighborhood who were trying to abduct Alhaji Azaria, a well-known businessman.

He said, “Prompt intervention forced the terrorists to flee and abandon their mission. Alhaji Azaria, along with 21 other civilians abducted from neighboring houses, was rescued.”

The statement also disclosed that the troops arrested a 45-year-old suspected terrorist informant, Falalu Yusuf, who is believed to have collaborated with the attackers.

“He has been handed over to relevant authorities for investigation and further necessary action,” Danja said.

Commending the troops for the successful operations, Danja mentioned that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remained committed to restoring peace and security in Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.

He stated, “Operation FANSAN YAMMA commends the vigilance, courage, and professionalism of the troops and reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to restoring peace and security in Zamfara State and the larger North-West region.”
