Grammy award winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has become the first African female artist to earn a Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) Diamond-certified single in the United States.
She achieved the milestone for the song “Wait For U”, her acclaimed collaboration with American rapper Future featuring Canadian rapper Drake, after the song surpassed 10 million certified units in the US.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Tems is now the first African musician to have earned a Diamond single in the United States, alongside Wizkid.
Wizkid became the first African musician to obtain an RIAA Diamond Certification for his duet with Drake on ‘One Dance’.
The success is another key milestone in Tems’ worldwide career, highlighting Nigerian music’s gaining global popularity.
The “Love is a Kingdom” singer has continued to explore new ground on the worldwide music landscape since garnering international recognition for her distinctive vocals and compositions.
The singer has won multiple Grammy Awards and been nominated for numerous international music awards, working with some of the world’s top music acts.
