President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former Lagos State Governor and former Minister of Works, Power, and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, on his birthday, describing him as an outstanding administrator whose contributions to governance and national development have left an indelible mark.
Fashola, born on June 28, 1963, turns 63 on Sunday (today).
Tinubu praised the former governor’s leadership, professionalism, and commitment to progressive governance in a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The president described the former minister as an accomplished legal practitioner and patriotic Nigerian whose outstanding public service had left an indelible mark, particularly in Lagos State.
He also praised Fashola’s adherence to good governance ideas, ethics in public office, intellectual depth, and dedication to nation-building.
Tinubu recalled Fashola’s tenure as chief of staff from 2003 to 2006, before succeeding him as governor of Lagos State from 2007 to 2015.
According to the president, Fashola built on progressive governance’s achievements by implementing significant changes in infrastructure, transportation, security, education, healthcare, environmental management, and public sector administration.
“Fashola’s commitment to excellence, which helped to transform Lagos into a model of innovation and sustainable urban development, will continue to signpost him as an outstanding governor and leader,” Tinubu said.
Tinubu also acknowledged Fashola’s service in the Federal Executive Council between 2015 and 2023, where he oversaw the ministries of Works, Power, and Housing.
“We must also commend his dedicated service in the federal cabinet between 2015 and 2023, when he took charge of critical ministries of works, power, and housing,” he added.
The president prayed for the former governor’s continued good health, wisdom, and strength.
“As former governor Fashola celebrates another year, I wish him well. I pray that Almighty Allah will grant him many more years in good health, wisdom, strength, and fulfillment as he continues to contribute to the growth, unity, and prosperity of our nation,” the president said.
