The Anambra State Police Command has secured the remand of a couple, Chukwudi Chukwuyere, ‘M,’ 40, and Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, ‘F,’ 30, in a correctional facility for their alleged involvement in the torture of a 10-year-old kid under their care.
Recall that the boy, Chiziterem, whose viral video was seen on social media with a scalded body and injuries on many areas of his body, was allegedly abused by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
He is currently receiving medical care under state protection.
The victim’s video footage, which appeared online a few days ago, sparked public alarm and prompted the state administration to intervene.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, said in a press statement on Thursday that the suspects were arraigned in court after preliminary investigations into the matter were completed.
Ikenga said, “The Anambra State Police Command has secured the remand of Mr. Chukwudi Chukwuyere ‘M,’ aged 40 years, and Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere ‘F,’ aged 30 years, in a correctional center over their alleged involvement in the abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu, Anambra State.
“The suspects were arraigned in court following the conclusion of preliminary investigations into the case, which attracted public concern after reports and video footage of the victim surfaced on social media.
“To this end, the Anambra State Police Command commends the residents of the area for their vigilance, cooperation, and timely provision of information that led to the rescue of the child and ensured that he received the necessary medical attention while the suspects were apprehended.
“Anambra State Police Command remains committed to promoting justice and the protection of human rights in line with the vision of the Inspector General of Police. Further developments would be communicated accordingly.”
The Anambra State First Lady, Nonye Soludo, expressed delight over the steady recovery of a 10-year-old boy who was allegedly assaulted by his guardians, describing it as a testament to the dedication of the medical team and the outpouring of love, support, and prayers from kind-hearted individuals.
Soludo, who paid a second visit to the youngster in the hospital, was relieved by the medical team’s comforting update that his condition is stable.
During the follow-up visit, the first lady expressed her delight with the victim’s consistent improvement and praised the medical staff that was caring for him.
