Residents of Ikogosi in Ekiti West Local Government Area turned out early on Saturday at Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s polling unit as voting began in the Ekiti State governorship election.
Voters were observed at Ward 6, Polling Unit 003, in front of the Oyebanji family compound in Okelele, verifying their names on the register and preparing to vote.
Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) came at the polling station and instructed people on the voting process before accreditation and voting began at around 8:30 a.m.
The officials told the electorate that enough materials had been provided for a smooth operation.
One of the voters, identified as Aduke, said she had confirmed her name on the register and was ready to vote.
“I have checked my name; it is on the register, and I am ready to vote. Hopefully, others will come out to do,” she said.
Meanwhile, residents of Oke Oriomi in Ado-Ekiti began gathering at their polling stations as early as 7 a.m. to verify their names on the voter registration list before voting.
A visit to some polling units revealed that voters had traveled long distances to vote, while security forces had been deployed early to maintain order and ensure a calm election.
