The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed concerns about a circulating threat letter stating that bandits intended to target and abduct schoolchildren, assuring residents that no verifiable intelligence supports such a threat.

In a post shared on X on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ikeja, the Superintendent of Police, Abimbola Adebisi, stated that the command is aware of the report but urged parents, guardians, school authorities, and residents to remain calm, stressing that there is currently no credible indication of an imminent attack within the state.

Tijani Fatai, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, has ordered an immediate assessment of the situation and increased security deployment in schools and other important places around the state.

Police officials also stated that operatives, working with other security agencies, have been dispatched to protect schools, important infrastructure, and communities.

The Command reassured citizens that Lagos is still secure and that aggressive measures are in place to prevent any breaches of public safety.

“There is presently no verified intelligence indicating any imminent threat of such an attack within Lagos State.

“While every security concern is treated seriously, members of the public are advised to remain calm and avoid panic,” the command said.

It further stated that security authorities will not accept any attempt by criminal elements to instill fear or disrupt public order in the state.

“The Command will not tolerate any attempt by miscreants, bandits, kidnappers, or other criminal elements to threaten the peace and safety of residents. Anyone found engaging in acts capable of causing fear or insecurity will be decisively dealt with in accordance with the law,” it stated.

Residents were asked to be vigilant and continue to provide security services with timely and credible information, emphasizing that effective policing relies on public participation.

The command also advised the public to report any suspicious people, movements, or activities to the nearest police station or through the following emergency numbers: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.

It restated its commitment to upholding law and order while also safeguarding the safety and security of all Lagos State residents.
