Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy will perform the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City.

The couple will perform Dai Dai, the tournament’s official song, on the stage at Estadio Azteca on June 11th, prior to Mexico’s first match against South Africa.

According to BBC Sport, Dai Dai is a celebration of football’s ability to bring people from different cultures and countries together,” FIFA said in a statement announcing the performance.”

The song’s title, an Italian word meaning “let’s go” or “come on,” is likely to be one of the highlights of the opening ceremony.

Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and South African singer-songwriter Tyla will also perform during the show, which kicks off the month-long tournament.

“We wanted a song that captures the energy, passion and global spirit of the FIFA World Cup,” FIFA added. “Shakira and Burna Boy bring together two of the world’s most influential musical voices.”

The opening ceremony in Mexico is one of three scheduled by the tournament’s host nations. Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette will headline celebrations ahead of Canada’s opening match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 12 in Toronto.

American pop star Katy Perry and rapper Future will perform before the United States faces Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Shakira’s return on the World Cup stage extends her lengthy history with football’s biggest game, following the success of past World Cup songs such as Waka Waka (This Time For Africa) and La La La.

The singer is also set to perform at the World Cup final on July 19, where she will co-headline the tournament’s first-ever Super Bowl-style halftime show with Madonna and K-pop duo BTS.
