AC Milan has begun discussions with Mauricio Pochettino as the Italian club searches for a new manager following the firing of Massimiliano Allegri.
Pochettino, the current manager of the United States men’s national team, is preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
According to BBC Sport on Friday, the Argentine coach is still focused on the event, although Milan is said to be interested in hiring him after his contract with US Soccer expires after the World Cup.
The 54-year-old hasn’t managed a team since leaving Chelsea at the end of the 2023-24 season.
During his one season at Stamford Bridge, he led the Blues to sixth place in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup Final.
Pochettino was with Paris Saint-Germain for 18 months before joining Chelsea, when he won the French Cup and Ligue 1.
He also had a remarkable career at Tottenham Hotspur, where he stayed more than five years and led the club to the UEFA Champions League final in 2019.
Pochettino’s managing career has also included periods at Southampton and Espanyol, and he gained 20 caps for Argentina as a defender.
AC Milan fired Allegri after failing to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The Rossoneri finished fifth in Serie A, losing 2-1 at home to Cagliari on the final day of the season.
Despite qualifying for the UEFA Europa League, Milan officials apparently saw the campaign as a significant disappointment, missing out on Europe’s top competition for the second year in a row.
