The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams to worship centers, recreational facilities, and other public places ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The deployment is part of the Command’s increased security preparations to ensure a peaceful and trouble-free celebration throughout the FCT.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, stated that the Command has increased security operations throughout the area.
She stated that the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, including the military, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigerian Immigration Service, had activated a joint security arrangement known as “Operation Sweep FCT.”
According to her, the operation has been separated into important sectors across the territory, with security forces conducting ongoing patrols and coordinated actions to prevent and respond to criminal activity.
“As part of the Command’s preventive security strategy, Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams have also been directed to conduct proactive sweeps of designated worship centres, recreational facilities, and other venues expected to host large gatherings,” the statement said.
The police commissioner also held a strategic Zoom meeting with Divisional Police Officers and Divisional Crime Officers across the Command, charging them to remain vigilant and professional before, during, and after the celebrations.
He emphasized the importance of improved visible policing, rapid response to distress calls, and stronger community engagement while warning that officers’ unprofessional conduct would not be tolerated.
The FCT Police Command asked citizens to be law-abiding and security-conscious and to report any suspicious activity to its emergency lines at 08032003913 and 07057337653.
