Celtic won the Scottish Cup with a 3-1 win over Dunfermline on Saturday, completing the double seven days after their stunning title victory.
Daizen Maeda and Arne Engels scored for Martin O’Neill’s team at Hampden Park, putting them ahead by two goals before halftime.
Kelechi Iheanacho scored after the break to seal the victory, with Josh Cooper’s late goal providing little consolation for outclassed Dunfermline.
Celtic won for the eighth game in a row in all competitions, precisely timing their best run of success since being reinvigorated by interim manager O’Neill.
Celtic’s 43rd Scottish Cup win capped a fantastic season for O’Neill.
The 74-year-old now has nine major honors as Celtic manager, spanning 26 years.
Celtic completed their 14th top-flight and Scottish Cup double.
O’Neill is on his second stint as caretaker manager of the Glasgow club this season and has yet to agree to return next season.
So it seemed natural that O’Neill’s prospective farewell came against Dunfermline manager Neil Lennon, who had previously worked with O’Neill at Celtic and Leicester.
Celtic won the Scottish Premiership title last weekend, rallying from behind to defeat Hearts 3-1 on the season’s final day.
The Hoops needed late goals from Maeda and Callum Osmand to finish two points ahead of Derek McInnes’ side, which had led the table for months.
Hearts were incensed that Celtic had stayed in the title race thanks to a controversial penalty that secured a win at Motherwell in their penultimate game.
There was no need for any controversial drama in the finale.
Celtic took the lead in the 19th minute when Alistair Johnston’s ball reached Maeda, who lobbed it over the stranded Aston Oxborough.
They extended their lead in the 36th minute when Engels struck a stunning strike from 25 yards, leaving Oxborough stunned.
Iheanacho grabbed onto Benjamin Nygren’s through ball and used incredible footwork to evade three opponents before scoring in the 72nd minute.
Cooper scored on a rebound after Charlie Gilmour’s attempt was blocked in the 79th minute, although Celtic were never in danger of losing the lead.
