The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State on Thursday confirmed Governor Abba Yusuf as the consensus Kano governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The affirmation, which was held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kofar Mata, drew a large crowd of party members who defied the rain to attend the grand occasion.
The official affirmation was attended by significant figures such as National Assembly members and top government officials.
Muntari Shagari, chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, declared that Abba Yusuf has satisfied the Constitution and is hereby affirmed and returned as the sole candidate for the Kano governorship election in 2027.
“I hereby declare that Abba Kabir Yusuf, having satisfied the Constitution requirements of the APC, is affirmed and returned as the nominated Kano governorship candidate for 2027,” he said.
Earlier, Senator Barau Jibrin of Kano North Senatorial Zone presented the proposal to adopt Yusuf as the APC flagbearer, while Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila of Kano South Senatorial Zone seconded it.
Yusuf thanked all of the delegates for their patriotism and commitment to the party’s success in the 2027 general elections.
“I hereby accept my nomination and affirmation by the APC delegates for the governorship election in 2026,” he said.
The governor, who praised party supporters and other stakeholders for ensuring the exercise’s peaceful and successful completion, promised to give greater democratic dividends if re-elected for a second term.
