The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called for urgent government action following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo warning that insecurity is spreading across communities in Nigeria.
In a statement issued by NLC president Joe Ajaero, the labour union described the incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State as a disturbing sign of worsening insecurity.
Ajaero said the attack on schools in Ahoro Esinele and Yawota showed that “no community is safe anymore”, adding that innocent children were increasingly becoming targets of criminal groups.
The union condemned the abduction of pupils and teachers from Community High School, LEA Basic School and First Baptist School in the affected communities, saying the incident had shocked Nigerians and deepened fears over public safety.
The NLC also expressed concern over the impact of recurring attacks on education, community stability and economic activities in the region.
It urged federal and state authorities to intensify security operations, strengthen intelligence gathering and ensure the safe return of those abducted. The congress further demanded that perpetrators of the attack be arrested and prosecuted.
The labour body said protecting workers, teachers, students and residents must remain a priority for governments at all levels as insecurity continues to spread across different parts of the country.
