A fire outbreak at the oncology department of National Hospital Abuja on Monday disrupted activities, forcing the emergency evacuation of patients and medical personnel from the affected unit.
Chronicle NG gathered that the incident, which was reportedly triggered by an electrical fault, was quickly contained before it could spread to other sections of the hospital.
Patients receiving treatment at the oncology unit, including those having chemotherapy and emergency care, were relocated to safer parts of the building as a precaution.
A witness at the hospital informed journalists that the inferno began after numerous electrical oscillations in the unit and that the power supply was unstable before completely failing.
The source went on to say that before smoke spread throughout the department, there was a distinct burning odor, which was thought to be caused by electrical wiring.
The witness reportedly stated that patients and medical staff were immediately asked to leave the building, while those undergoing treatment were transferred to different areas within the hospital for continued care.
Although no casualties were reported, smoke was believed to linger in the affected area for hours after the incident, leading hospital officials to temporarily halt activities in the oncology department.
While investigations are underway to ascertain the exact source of the outbreak, hospital officials confirmed that no injuries or deaths resulted from the fire.
