Meta has announced a new feature called “Incognito Chat” for WhatsApp and the Meta AI app, aimed at offering users fully private conversations with artificial intelligence.
The company said the feature is built on its “Private Processing” technology, which it claims prevents anyone — including Meta itself — from accessing users’ chats with Meta AI.
According to Meta, Incognito Chat creates a temporary and private conversation space where messages are not stored and disappear automatically by default.
The company said the move comes as more people rely on AI chatbots for sensitive questions involving personal finances, health, work and private matters.
Meta noted that while some rival services already offer incognito-style AI chats, those systems can still access users’ prompts and responses. It said Incognito Chat was designed to ensure conversations remain inaccessible to both external parties and Meta.
The feature will begin rolling out over the coming months on WhatsApp and the Meta AI app.
Meta also disclosed plans to introduce another privacy-focused feature called “Side Chat”, which will allow users to receive AI assistance within existing chats without interrupting conversations.
The company said Side Chat will also be protected by its Private Processing system and will use the context of ongoing chats to provide assistance privately.
Meta added that the latest development forms part of its broader push to strengthen privacy protections for AI-powered communication services.
