A tragic incident at the College of Immaculate Conception (CIC) has sparked grief and outrage following the death of 14-year-old student, Kaosisochukwu Ambrose Nnamani Jnr, who reportedly drowned while attempting to retrieve a bucket from a reservoir within the school premises.

According to accounts circulating online, the incident occurred after students were reportedly asked to leave the hostel for May devotion. Kaosisochukwu and some of his friends allegedly sneaked to a reservoir where his bucket had fallen.

Fearing punishment from his mother over the missing bucket, the teenager was said to have repeatedly told his friends, “My mummy will beat me if I don’t get my bucket.”

Reports claimed the boy asked his friends to tie a rope around his hands so he could descend into the reservoir and climb out easily with the bucket. However, the rope reportedly snapped due to the weight, causing him to fall into the reservoir, where he drowned.

The heartbreaking death has generated reactions online, with many describing it as avoidable and raising concerns about water supply facilities within the school.

Some commentators alleged that despite the school’s reputation and high fees, students still depended on the reservoir because of inadequate water supply. The claims have not been officially addressed by the school authorities as of the time of filing this report.

The family of Kaosisochukwu later confirmed his death in a funeral announcement released on behalf of the family and the Sacred Heart Altar Boys Association.

According to the announcement, the 14-year-old died on May 4, 2026. He was described as the son of Comrade Ambrose Nnamani of Isi-Ama Ejona, Mbu Amon, in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of Enugu State.

The funeral arrangement stated that a Christian wake was held at the College of Immaculate Conception, Enugu, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026.

It added that his body would depart the Eastern Nigeria Medical Centre, Enugu, on Thursday, May 14, 2026, for his hometown, Ugwu-Faith Isi-Ama Ejona Mbu-Amon, Isi-Uzo LGA, where he would lie in state ahead of the burial rites.

The burial Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. at his father’s compound, with interment to follow immediately afterward.

The tragic death has continued to stir emotional reactions, especially among parents, students, and old boys of the institution, many of whom are calling for improved safety measures in schools to prevent similar incidents.
