Residents of the Onitsha community in Anambra State have shown support for Peter Obi’s presidential bid in the 2027 general elections.
The residents, who included mothers, fathers, and youths from both the Onitsha North and Onitsha South Local Government Areas, showed unity with Obi and supported his presidential campaign over the weekend.
According to them, Obi, who oversaw various developmental projects in Onitsha during his governorship and catalyzed the transformation of Anambra State, is the most promising candidate for Nigeria’s future if elected president.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), to which Obi recently defected, has zoned its presidential ticket for 2027 to Southern Nigeria.
This puts the 2023 presidential flag bearer for the Labour Party (LP) in prime position to receive the ticket.
The NDC announced the decision in a post on its official X handle: “The NDC presidential ticket is zoned to the South!”
They asked all citizens to support the NDC in order to save and reposition the country, while also requesting that the party leadership desist from handpicking a candidate for the Federal House of Representatives.
The community also took the opportunity to recognize Idu Emeka, the incumbent representative of the Onitsha Federal Constituency, and urged him to step down in favor of a new candidate.
According to them, because legislative service requires prolonged physical and mental stamina, and health is crucial in concerns of public responsibility, a younger candidate should run for the job.
