The Nasarawa State Police Command has initiated an investigation and rescue operation in response to the kidnapping of six students from Nasarawa State University’s Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus, in Keffi by suspected gunmen.
The students were allegedly kidnapped on Wednesday night when armed hoodlums invaded a students’ lodge at Anguwar Ninzo in Gudi, on the fringes of the village.
Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed this in a statement released to journalists in Lafia on Thursday.
According to him, the command got a distress call at 9 p.m. on May 6, 2026, claiming that unidentified gunmen had invaded the resort and kidnapped many pupils.
He said, “So far, six victims have been identified, all of whom are students of the Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, alongside one other victim who was reportedly visiting one of the students at the time of the incident.”
Shetima Jauro Mohammed, the Commissioner of Police, visited the location after the incident to conduct an on-the-spot inspection and reassured the locals and university community that steps were being made to ensure the victims’ safe release.
In order to coordinate field operations in the area while the kidnapped students are being rescued, the command stated that the CP has also redeployed the Area Commander in Akwanga.
In order to step up efforts to find the kidnappers, a combined security team made up of members of the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the military, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, vigilante groups, and other tactical units was mobilized, according to the statement.
“The Command urges members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and security conscious, while appealing to anyone with useful information that could aid the ongoing operation to promptly report to the nearest police station or any other security agency,” Nansel stated.
He also stated that further updates would be communicated as investigations and rescue efforts progressed.
