Arinze Onwumelu, a Nigerian doctor working in Canada, has warned that Nigerian street singer Portable may never recover from the punches he received from comedian Carter Efe during their celebrity boxing bout.

The high-intensity duel took place over the weekend in Lagos, and Portable lost.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the fight’s outcome, which drew substantial attention from fans and celebrities, sparked social media buzz after the ‘Zazuu’ crooner was defeated.

In a tweet and viral video posted on social media on Monday, Onwumelu, also known as Dr. Zo, urged Portable to have a head scan, preferably magnetic resonance imaging, to rule out any potential internal injuries received during the battle.

According to him, Efe inflicted repeated strikes to sensitive areas of Portable’s skull, putting the singer at risk of a subdural hematoma, a severe brain injury.

“This is an exhibition match meant for entertainment, not a real fight to harm anyone. The contenders are not expected to fight to that extent.

“Or does it mean Efe didn’t get the memo or wasn’t properly informed? I watched the whole video; the kind of punches he delivered means Portable may never recover from them.

“Anybody who knows Portable should take him to the hospital for an MRI and brain test; there may be an artery that might have been damaged.”

To avoid major head trauma, the doctor suggested organizers of such matches make headguards necessary for future competitors.

Portable had boldly said ahead of the battle that he was medically fit and prepared to defeat Efe, having previously knocked out rapper Speed Darlington and actor Charles Okocha in similar celebrity boxing events.
