Victor Osimhen returned from injury as Galatasaray were eliminated from the Turkish Cup after losing 2-0 to Genclerbirligi in the quarterfinals.
The Nigerian striker, who had been out for several weeks with an arm injury, was introduced late in the game but was unable to change the outcome as the reigning champions lost at home.
Osimhen had resumed full training in preparation for the encounter and was anticipated to play briefly as he worked his way back to full health after missing four games.
He ultimately entered the game in the 78th minute, replacing Renato Nhaga, but Galatasaray were already behind and battling to break down their opponents.
The visitors seized the lead early in the second half when Firatcan Uzum scored in the 51st minute after a loose ball inside the box.
Galatasaray fought for an equalizer, with Ahmed Kutucu’s close-range shot blocked and Wilfried Singo’s goal called out for offside.
Genclerbirligi then clinched the victory in the 83rd minute, with Adama Traore scoring from close range off a rebound to make it 2-0.
Despite multiple attacking substitutes by coach Okan Buruk, including the entrance of Osimhen, the hosts were unable to recover, and the visitors advanced to the semi-finals.
The defeat interrupted Galatasaray’s 10-match unbeaten streak in the Turkish Cup.
Attention will now shift to a key league match against Fenerbahce on Sunday, where Osimhen is anticipated to play a larger role as Galatasaray seeks to preserve their title lead.
