Heavily armed police operatives stormed the Obanta Club in Ijebu-Ode, the headquarters of the Ijebu-Ode Local Government area of Ogun State, and cordoned off the residence of former governor Gbenga Daniel in GRA, disrupting a planned political gathering of his supporters.

An armored personnel carrier (APC) was spotted at the area, highlighting the significant security presence that caused terror in the neighborhood.

According to sources, the operatives allegedly disrupted a scheduled BAT/OGD Community Assessment and Review protest organized by the previous governor.

The BAT/OGD Movement (Bola Ahmed Tinubu/Otunba Gbenga Daniel) is a grassroots political movement that is mobilizing support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term run in 2027, as well as Daniel’s anticipated return to the Senate.

An assistant to the former governor, who now represents the Ogun East Senatorial District in the 10th Senate, claimed that security personnel blocked all entry routes to Daniel’s home, effectively preventing the group from holding its meeting.

“Police stormed the Obanta Club area and blockaded OGD’s residence to deny access to the venue of the BAT/OGD Community Assessment and Review Tour scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, 2026,” the aide stated.

The program, organized by Senator Daniel’s Gateway Front Foundation, has traditionally acted as a platform for empowering residents throughout the senatorial area.

It was estimated that the outreach will assist at least 10,000 people. However, the large number of security personnel reportedly compelled planners and participants to depart the event.

According to eyewitnesses, many supporters were left stuck and obviously distraught after being unable to enter the event due to the obstruction.

The event is the latest twist in the developing political schism between Daniel and Governor Dapo Abiodun, both prominent members of the state’s All Progressives Congress (APC).

Two days previously, Daniel was denied access to a senatorial stakeholders’ meeting at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode. The conference, which was characterized as critical to choosing the party’s senatorial ticket, reportedly became rowdy as a result of the development.

Abiodun, who is rumored to be vying for the Ogun East Senate seat, was supposedly approved as the APC’s consensus candidate at the meeting, which is widely thought to have strained relations between the two political heavyweights.
