The Bauchi State caucus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has rejected attempts to bring Governor Bala Mohammed to the party.

The caucus announced its position during a briefing on Tuesday night, following a meeting in Abuja.

The development comes after Mohammed reportedly announced plans to defect to the African Democratic Congress on March 31, 2026.

This came after the APC’s national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, and Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, paid a visit to the Bauchi Government House and met with him behind closed doors.

Although the parties did not address journalists following the meeting, sources said that the visit was intended to persuade the governor to reconsider his rumored plans to join the ADC and instead align with the APC.

Following the caucus meeting, Senator Sama’ila Dahuwa, representing the Bauchi North Senatorial District and chairman of the Bauchi APC caucus, stated that members unanimously decided to reject Mohammed’s proposed admittance into the party.

According to him, after extensive deliberation, the caucus “unequivocally rejects” the move.

The caucus expressed worry that Mohammed had often made public statements critical of President Bola Tinubu and the APC, including remarks that appeared to threaten the party’s unity and integrity.

It was highlighted that the governor had not reversed such words, nor had he attempted any formal reconciliation or issued a public apology to the party’s leadership and supporters.

“In view of the foregoing, the caucus firmly holds that his admission into the APC at this time will be detrimental to the party’s cohesion, credibility, and electoral prospects in Bauchi State,” Dahuwa stated.

The caucus also stated that it would not accept any move that threatened the party’s stability or political prospects.

It also criticized the Bauchi APC for failing to consult crucial stakeholders on such political concerns, citing the omission as incongruous with internal democracy and inclusivity norms.

The caucus stated that it would formally transmit its view to the party’s national leadership, requiring strict adherence to due process and established party procedures.

Meanwhile, rumors are that Mohammed has stalled his intended defection to the ADC following his meeting with APC leaders.

He has reportedly been consulting with Peoples Democratic Party stalwarts and stakeholders in Bauchi State.

It was reported that at a stakeholders’ meeting on April 4, 2026, the PDP in the state formed an exit committee to evaluate its political future amid mounting suspicion about the governor’s potential departure.

The Bauchi State PDP Chairman, Samaila Burga, said that the committee was formed to evaluate potential choices and investigate the prospect of leaving the party as part of a larger political realignment.

He stated that the committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau, includes representatives from the National Assembly, State Assembly, commissioners, party executives, and local government chairmen.

Burga also stated that the group would consult extensively before presenting its proposals at a following stakeholders’ meeting, where a final decision on the party’s political path in the state would be made.
