Yusuf (Talban Daura), the only male child of late President Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed interest in competing for a House of Representatives seat in the 2027 election.

This was said in a letter he personally signed, obtained by Chronicle NG on Tuesday.

The letter, dated 3rd April 2026, is titled “Expression of interest to contest for the seat of House of Representatives Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency.”

It read, “With all respect, I am extremely delighted to write and inform you of my intention to contest for the seat of the House of Representatives at the above-mentioned constituency (Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua), under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“After wide consultations, I wish to contest for the seat of the House of Representatives, Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua, as my contribution to ensure good and qualitative leadership.

“Your support will help my ambition to succeed, to bring infrastructural development as well as human support and development to the people of this constituency.

“While expecting your full support and encouragement, I wish you all the very best in all your undertakings.”

Buhari’s indication of interest in contesting the seat came just a week after APC stakeholders in Katsina State’s Sandamu Local Government Area backed him as their chosen candidate for the state’s Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting in the Sandamu Local Government Secretariat, which included elected officials and political appointees from throughout the federal constituency.

While addressing the audience, council chairman Usman Na-Lado hailed the endorsement as a communal decision reached by the stakeholders.

He stated that Yusuf’s candidacy was deemed appropriate based on his perceived ability and acceptance by party stakeholders.

Na-Lado added that, in addition to the House of Representatives seat, the gathering reiterated support for President Bola Tinubu and Governor Dikko Radda as the party’s presidential and gubernatorial candidates in the 2027 general elections.

According to reliable sources within the party, Governor Dikko Radda’s endorsement of Yusuf Buhari is a clear directive.

“Yusuf Buhari is the state governor’s anointed candidate,” one of the sources reveals.
