An act of honesty has drawn praise in Jos after a petty trader, Serah Luca, returned N1 million she unknowingly received alongside goods purchased at Terminus Market.

Luca said she made the purchase on Friday but only discovered the hidden cash after getting home. Despite the temptation, she chose to return the money, citing her faith and personal experience with business losses.

“I am a petty businesswoman. I know what it means to suffer loss. If I put that kind of money into my business, I believe God would punish me,” she said.

The money belonged to Abubakar Dola, a trader who deals in polythene bags at the busy market. He explained that he had mistakenly placed the cash inside one of the bags sold to Luca.

Dola said he had intended to transfer the money through a point-of-sale operator but became alarmed when he could not find the bag containing the cash.

“I mistakenly included it in what she bought. I didn’t realise until days later, and I had already given up hope,” he said.

Expressing gratitude, Dola described Luca’s action as rare and commendable.

“For her to return it after three days is remarkable. I pray Allah rewards her and gives us more people like her,” he added.

The incident has sparked admiration among traders and residents, highlighting the power of integrity even in difficult economic times.
