PSV win third-straight Eredivisie title after Feyenoord slip

Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven have been crowned Eredivisie champions for the third consecutive season after Feyenoord failed to beat FC Volendam on Sunday.

The 0-0 draw confirmed PSV’s unassailable 17-point lead, sealing their 27th league title in dominant fashion.

PSV had earlier edged FC Utrecht 4-3 in a thrilling encounter, putting Peter Bosz’s side on the brink of glory. They needed Feyenoord to drop points—and that’s exactly what happened, as Robin van Persie’s team were held in Volendam.

Even if Feyenoord had won, PSV’s superior goal difference would have kept them firmly in control of the title race.

    Story of the season

PSV’s title triumph was built on sheer consistency. The Eindhoven club won 15 of their opening 17 matches in the 2025/26 campaign, opening up an 11-point lead by mid-season.

Between late September and mid-January, PSV went on a remarkable 13-game winning streak, including a record-breaking run of 14 consecutive away victories in the Eredivisie.

Their 3-0 demolition of Feyenoord in February proved decisive, effectively ending any serious title challenge.

Although late defeats to NEC Nijmegen and Telstar delayed celebrations, PSV eventually sealed the title on their third attempt—making it the earliest championship win in Eredivisie history, surpassing their own 1978 record.

    A growing dynasty

This latest triumph confirms PSV’s dominance in Dutch football. It marks their third straight league title, the first such streak since Ajax achieved the feat between 2019 and 2022 under Erik ten Hag.

Historically, PSV have enjoyed similar golden eras, including four consecutive titles between 1986 and 1989 under Guus Hiddink, and another four-title run from 2005 to 2008 led by Ronald Koeman and others.

With three titles in a row again, PSV have firmly re-established themselves as the dominant force in the Netherlands.
