Four children were fatally stabbed on Thursday at a kindergarten in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, according to authorities.
The male suspect gained entrance by impersonating a parent before attacking the children, who were believed to be between the ages of two and three by local media.
Angry residents tried to lynch the culprit as he fled, but security officers intervened and caught him, according to police spokeswoman Racheal Kawala.
“We confirm a tragic incident at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program school in Makindye Division, Kampala City, where a male suspect brutally stabbed and killed four juveniles,” Kawala said.
The motivation for the deaths remains unknown, and authorities are investigating.
Social media videos showed worried parents outside the nursery school, which had been blocked off, anxiously seeking news of their children and demanding their release.
