The Plateau State Government has relaxed the curfew earlier imposed on the Jos North Local Government Area following improved security in the area.
The Commissioner for Information, Joyce Ramnap, announced this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Ramnap mentioned that the adjustment takes effect from April 1, 2026.
She stated that the curfew, which was initially declared for 48 hours, will now run from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily to allow residents to attend to their normal activities within the permitted hours.
According to the statement, the decision to relax the curfew followed the relative calm recorded after the recent violent attack on residents of Angwan Rukuba in Jos North Local Government Area.
“In light of the relative calm recorded after the recent violent attack on citizens of Angwan Rukuba in the Jos North Local Government Area, the Plateau State Government, under the leadership of His Excellency Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has announced the relaxation of the 48-hour curfew earlier imposed on the area.
“Effective from April 1, 2026, the curfew will now be observed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Residents are hereby permitted to carry out their lawful activities within the stipulated hours,” the statement read.
Ramnap asked locals to be calm, cautious, and law-abiding while security agencies monitored the situation closely.
She also thanked the people for their cooperation throughout the execution of the restriction and emphasized the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property throughout the state.
The curfew was initially imposed after gunmen attacked inhabitants of Angwan Rukuba in Jos, killing at least 28 people.
Authorities said the relaxation came after improvements in the security situation, as attempts to restore long-term peace continued.
