The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over N387,483,488 recovered from fraud suspects to the Jigawa State Government, marking a major recovery of public funds.

The presentation took place at the EFCC Kano Zonal Directorate office, where the recovered sum was formally transferred to the state’s Director of Treasury Operations, Muhammad Haruna.

The recovery followed intelligence provided by the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), which flagged alleged misappropriation involving two suspects, Abdullahi Garba and Ayuba Sani.

Acting on the tip-off, EFCC operatives launched an investigation that led to the recovery of the full amount. The suspects were subsequently arraigned in court on charges related to diversion of public funds.

One of the defendants, Abdullahi Garba, was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison after pleading guilty. The second suspect, Ayuba Sani, is still standing trial.

Speaking during the handover, Acting Zonal Director, ACE1 Friday S. Ebelo, reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to tackling corruption and recovering stolen assets.

He said the recovery demonstrates the EFCC’s resolve to ensure that funds meant for development are not diverted for personal gain.

Haruna, who received the bank draft on behalf of the state government, praised the EFCC for its diligence and professionalism, noting that the recovered funds would benefit the people of Jigawa State.
