The Delta State Government has announced that 11 more suspects have been arrested by the police in connection with the sexual assault of women during the recently held Ozoro festival.
The state government revealed this in a statement on X on Saturday.
The statement partly read, “Police investigations into the disturbing incidents in Oramudu Quarters, Ozoro, have recorded a major breakthrough with the arrest of eleven additional suspects.
“Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, the CP Special Assignment Team carried out a detailed investigation, analyzing video evidence and intelligence.
“This led to the arrest of suspects, including Samson Atukpodo, Steven Ovie, Ugbevo Samson, Afoke Akporobaro, Evidence Oguname, and six others.”
The administration further stated that the acts were carried out by criminal elements who took advantage of the situation to commit sexual violence, and they do not reflect any acceptable cultural practice.
It stated that the police command has reaffirmed its commitment to identifying and prosecuting all those responsible.
Victims and witnesses were also encouraged to provide important information while being assured of confidentiality.
Chronicle NG reported that the Delta State Police Command has arrested six persons, including the community head and chief organizer of the Ozoro festival, in connection with the alleged sexual assault of women during the annual event in the state.
