The Delta State Police Command has condemned the sexual molestation of many women during a festival in the Ozoro area of the state.

A viral video released on Friday has aroused controversy by depicting images of alleged sexual assault involving multiple women during a local festival in Ozoro, Delta State.

The horrific clip, which was extensively shared on social media, showed groups of young males allegedly beating women in public, tearing their garments and exposing them to various sorts of abuse.

According to reports, the event occurred on Thursday, March 19, during the community’s annual celebration, where women are reportedly encouraged to stay indoors. It was stated that any lady spotted outside during the event would be harassed by attendees.

Some sources further claimed that, in addition to molestation, certain victims were raped, although these allegations have yet to be formally confirmed.

Speaking on the development, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, described the incident as “alarming, disgusting, and embarrassing.”

He revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, had ordered a full investigation into the matter.

He wrote, “This is alarming, disgusting, and embarrassing. The CP has ordered an investigation into the incident.

“The command condemns this in totality; no custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens.

“The Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Aina Adesola urges Deltans to remain calm while assuring that those responsible for this barbaric act will be arrested and brought to justice.

“The command also calls for witnesses who can provide useful information that can aid the ongoing investigation.”
