The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed the nationwide deployment of tactical assets to safeguard the safety and security of people and property during the Eid el-Fitr celebrations.
Disu also offered heartfelt congratulations to Muslim faithful across Nigeria on the successful conclusion of the Ramadan fast and the festive occasion.
In a statement issued on Friday by police spokesperson Anthony Placid, the IG urged commissioners of police and tactical commanders across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to implement comprehensive security measures over the holiday season.
The directive calls for the strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operatives, as well as the mobilization of the Special Intervention Squad and regular police personnel to Eid prayer grounds and other important infrastructure.
“Operational measures include strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operatives; deployment of the Special Intervention Squad and conventional police personnel to Eid prayer grounds and critical infrastructure; and increased presence at highways, motor parks, recreational centers, and other public spaces to ensure peaceful and hitch-free celebrations,” part of the statement read.
The Inspector-General also directed more visible policing, coordinated patrols, expanded surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties to proactively deter criminal activity and respond quickly to emergent risks.
Disu advised the people to be watchful, cooperate with law enforcement, and immediately report any suspicious activity to the local police station or authorized emergency lines.
