UCL: PSG thrash Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge

Paris Saint-Germain defeated Liverpool, with Ousmane Dembele scoring twice, to advance to the Champions League semi-finals, where Luis Enrique's team will face Bayern Munich or Real Madrid.

Chelsea suffered a humiliating defeat in a two-legged European contest, losing 8-2 on aggregate and 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to European champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia started the score after six minutes, then Bradley Barcola doubled PSG’s advantage with their second attempt of the game in the 14th minute.

It virtually finished the tie as a game, and replacement Senny Mayulu inflicted further misery on Chelsea in this last-16 clash.

Home fans chanted for former owner Roman Abramovich, despite the Premier League announcing a record £10.75 million fine for more than £47 million in unreported payments to agents, as well as others directed at the present ownership, who watched from the directors’ box.

Mamadou Sarr’s shaky defense led to Kvaratskhelia’s opening goal, which he scored with a low left-footed shot.

Chelsea then launched a flurry of attacks through Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernández, Pedro Neto, and Trevoh Chalobah before PSG scored again.

After Moises Caicedo lost control in midfield, PSG raced forward and Barcola scored a stunning goal with his weaker left foot, half-volleying into the top corner to double their advantage.

Chelsea continued to attack and produce fantastic opportunities through Joao Pedro, Palmer, and Jorrel Hato, but they also gave up major chances on the break to Kvaratskhelia and Barcola.

The Blues were booed off at halftime, prompting head coach Liam Rosenior to replace Sarr with academy graduate Josh Acheampong.

After the break, Joao Pedro came near again in the 56th minute, but Rosenior appeared to surrender defeat by removing star players Palmer, Fernandez, and Joao Pedro.

Liam Delap, one of the replacements, had a close-range shot stopped shortly after, but Mayulu, 19, curled a spectacular strike from well inside the box to add a third on the night, securing an incredible 8-2 aggregate victory.

And a night in which Chelsea became only the third English team to surrender eight goals in a European tie took a turn for the worse when defender Chalobah was stretchered out, leaving the hosts with 10 men in the final minutes.

PSG now faces the winner of Liverpool vs. Galatasaray, with the Turkish team leading 1-0 going into the second leg at Anfield tomorrow night.
