The federal government has announced Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to commemorate Eid-el-Fitr, which marks the completion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the minister of interior, made the announcement on behalf of the federal government.
Magdalene Ajani, the permanent secretary of the ministry, issued a statement on Tuesday expressing warm greetings and heartfelt congratulations to Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the fasting season.
Tunji-Ojo urged Muslims to uphold the values of love, kindness, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which were highlighted throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
He also encouraged Nigerians to use the Eid-el-Fitr festive season to pray for the country’s continuing peace, unity, and prosperity.
While wishing the Muslim faithful a joyous Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, the minister urged residents to celebrate responsibly and show charity to those less fortunate in society.
He stated that the federal government is still committed to promoting national unity and peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
