A crowd stampede disrupted the distribution of empowerment items at the Renewed Hope South-East Youth Tour on Saturday in Owerri, Imo State, as many young people attended the City Boy Movement-organized event.
The group, on the other hand, hailed the two-day event as a success, citing the large participation of youths, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and other stakeholders from around the South-East.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the National Publicity Secretary of the movement, Emana-Amawhe, said the program was designed to engage young Nigerians on governance and economic opportunities under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
According to the statement, the program began with a policy conference where youth leaders, policy experts, entrepreneurs, and public officials discussed governance, enterprise growth, and access to capital.
The conference also looked at how young Nigerians might drive national development and actively contribute to economic prosperity.

The second day featured an empowerment rally attended by thousands of young people who came to show their support for the government’s development program and to take part in empowerment projects geared at encouraging youth enterprise.
However, the distribution of empowerment goods was disrupted as the audience became excited and rushed toward the designated distribution spot.
The organization said that the distribution exercise began in an organized manner until some members broke through barricades set up to coordinate the procedure.
“As the enthusiasm of the large crowd surged toward the designated distribution area, the barricades were breached, and the remaining empowerment items were accessed by members of the crowd before the structured distribution could be concluded,” Ambrose-Amawhe said.
He also stated that attempts by some commentators to portray the development negatively were misleading and did not reflect the overall impact of the event.

The City Boy Movement reaffirmed its commitment to youth engagement, empowerment initiatives, and grassroots participation in national development.
The group also stated that the response of young people in Owerri demonstrated the critical role that youngsters continue to play in defining Nigeria’s future.
The City Boy Movement is one of several youth-led support groups endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s administration and promoting engagement in policies aligned with the Renewed Hope agenda, which focuses on economic reform, job creation, and national development.
