A fire outbreak at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja caused panic on Monday morning after a section of the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation was engulfed in smoke.
The incident, which occurred around 8:20am, affected Section C of the building inside the Federal Secretariat complex in Abuja.
Eyewitnesses said thick black smoke was seen billowing from the affected area, forcing staff members to quickly evacuate the building.
Videos circulating on social media showed plumes of smoke rising from the section as workers hurried out while emergency responders were alerted.
The media department of the Office of the Head of Service confirmed the incident, stating that the situation was being handled by emergency officials.
According to the office, the fire outbreak was limited to Section C of the building.
“The fire outbreak is limited to Section C of the building and is currently being attended to by emergency officials,” the office said in a statement.
Emergency responders were reported to be working at the scene to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the complex.
The cause of the fire had not been disclosed at the time this report was filed.
