Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a 24-year-old palm kernel dealer, Iziga Jude Ikechukwu, popularly known as Easy-money, for allegedly abusing naira notes during his birthday celebration in Enugu State.

The suspect was apprehended by officers of the EFCC’s Enugu Zonal Directorate after a viral video surfaced on social media showing him spraying and mishandling naira notes in a hotel room while celebrating his birthday.

According to the anti-graft agency, the act is an offence under Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act 2007, which prohibits the abuse, mutilation or defacing of the Nigerian currency.

The EFCC said the arrest followed actionable intelligence obtained from the circulating video. After receiving the tip, investigators conducted a preliminary probe which led to the identification of the suspect and his residence.

He was subsequently arrested on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at his residence around the Timber Market area in Enugu-Ezike.

During the operation, EFCC operatives recovered N81,700 suspected to be part of the naira notes he allegedly mutilated in the video.

The commission said Ikechukwu will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

In recent months, the EFCC has intensified enforcement actions against the abuse of naira notes at social events, warning Nigerians that spraying, defacing or mutilating the currency remains a punishable offence.
