Saudi Arabia condemned an overnight Iranian attack on the US embassy in Riyadh on Tuesday as Tehran continues to retaliate in the Gulf following US and Israeli strikes.

In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said, “Its strongest condemnation and rejection of the heinous attack that targeted the US Embassy building in Riyadh,” describing it as “cowardly and unjustified.”

Chronicle NG reports that Iran attacked the US Embassy in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, setting the diplomatic area on fire.

According to Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense, two drones struck the embassy grounds early on Tuesday, resulting in “a small fire” and “minor material damage.”

According to Iran Wire, plumes of black smoke were visible rising over Riyadh’s diplomatic quarter, which is home to a number of foreign offices.

“A loud blast was heard, and flames were visible at the site, although authorities described the fire as limited in scale.”

No casualties were reported, and the embassy building was apparently vacant at the time of the attack.

Four drones that were aimed at the diplomatic quarter during the attack were reportedly intercepted by air defense systems.

Later, the embassy advised Americans to stay away from the facility.

The strike came after a different event at the US Embassy in Kuwait, which declared it would stay closed indefinitely.

As a precaution, the US State Department also mandated the evacuation of families and non-emergency personnel from Kuwait, Bahrain, Iraq, Qatar, and Jordan.

Reporters were informed by US President Donald Trump that Washington would soon have a firm response to the attack on the embassy and the deaths of US servicemen.

“You’ll find out soon,” he said.

In response to joint US-Israeli strikes on its territory, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks on targets in nations that host American military assets.

The embassy strike coincides with an increase in hostilities throughout the Gulf region.

Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil company, closed its Ras Tanura refinery on Monday after debris from an Iranian drone attack caused a fire.
