Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (Shiites) held a peaceful protest in Lagos State to condemn the murder of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as a result of US and Israeli strikes.

The protest, which began in the early hours of Monday, followed similar rallies in Kano State on Sunday.

The Shiites protesters marched through parts of the Maryland axis in Lagos, holding posters and banners condemning what they called an “invasion” of Iran and the targeted death of the country’s long-serving leader.

Chants and slogans expressed sympathy with Iran while strongly condemning the activities of the United States and Israel.

According to accounts from leadership, the gathering was quiet and orderly, with no immediate reports of violence, large disruptions, or spillover to other regions.

Some IMN leaders, addressing reporters, asked the Nigerian government to reject the presence of US troops in the country.

Muftau Zakariya, IMN’s South West organizer, stated that the rally was organized to convey their worries over what he described as the US administration’s ongoing invasions of sovereign nations, citing Venezuela as a recent example of foreign meddling.

Zakariya further said that since the US government’s engagement in Nigeria, terrorism has escalated.

He claimed that heightened and continuous attacks in Kwara State were the result of US intervention in the country’s affairs.

“I said to you that nothing good is coming from US intervention. It is only interested in their economic gains and not minding the consequences thereafter,” he told Leadership.

He claimed that heightened and continuous attacks in Kwara State were the result of US intervention in the country’s affairs.

The strikes began on or around February 28, 2026, and have developed into ongoing military exchanges, with allegations of large casualties, Iranian retaliation, and regional destabilization.

On Sunday, the Islamic Republic declared 40 days of national mourning in honor of Khamenei, who commanded the Middle Eastern nation for nearly four decades.
