President Bola Tinubu has credited the “remarkable achievements” of Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), for boosting the electoral fortunes of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s polls.
In a statement issued by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president congratulated winners of elections held in the FCT, Kano State, and Rivers State.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) conducted area council elections across the FCT and by-elections in Ahoada East II and Khana II state constituencies in Rivers, as well as Kano Municipal and Ungogo constituencies in Kano.
Tinubu urged the victors to govern with “humility, patriotism and dedication”, describing their mandates as a sacred trust from the people.
He also congratulated the APC’s national and state leadership in Kano and Rivers, praising party members for the victories recorded.
The president commended Wike for what he described as visible developmental strides in the FCT, saying they have translated into “political dividends” for the ruling party.
Tinubu further lauded INEC, security agencies and voters for ensuring peaceful polls, adding that democracy thrives on participation and healthy competition.
He said the successful conduct of the elections strengthens Nigeria’s democratic institutions and urged INEC to continue refining the electoral process.
Wike, a prominent member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former governor of Rivers, has faced criticism within his party over his role in the APC-led administration.
