Valentine’s Day in Nigeria is getting a major upgrade in 2026, as fresh Google search data shows Nigerians are moving beyond the traditional dinner-and-roses routine.
Instead, they are opting for hyper-personalised experiences, glow-up dates, curated aesthetics, and celebrations that extend beyond romantic partners.
From spa dates to money bouquets and Galentine’s parties, love this year is less about cliché gestures and more about intentional, picture-perfect moments.
Here’s what Nigerians are searching for this February:
1. The Rise of the ‘Glow-Up’ Dates
In a surprising twist, search interest in “Valentine couple package for dental” is climbing, suggesting that couples are choosing bright smiles over boxes of chocolate.
Searches for “spa couples Valentine package ideas” and “combo deal for Valentine’s in a spa or salon” are also trending, signalling a shift from high-pressure dinner reservations to relaxing pamper sessions.
Even budget-conscious lovers are typing in “cheap good restaurants for Valentine’s Day,” showing that affordability and experience now go hand in hand.
Search interest in Valentine bags quadrupled (+300%) in the first week of February, while Valentine hairstyles spiked by +270% — proof that presentation remains a key part of the celebration.
2. The ‘Experience’ Flex
Dinner is nice, but a getaway is better. Among the top activity searches are “romantic weekend getaway Lagos” and the more adventurous “Valentine cruise trip near Nigeria.”
Others are exploring unconventional settings, including “Valentine couple package for dental” and activity-based celebrations like “games for youth Valentine program in church” and “activities for Valentine’s class party in Nigerian schools.”
For younger Nigerians and increasingly, men aesthetics matter. A breakout search trend this year is “Valentine photoshoot ideas for boys,” signalling that men are equally invested in curated looks and social media-ready moments.
3. Galentine’s and the Squad
Valentine’s Day is no longer couples-only. Search interest in Galentine’s Day has steadily increased year-on-year, peaking in 2025. In the first week of February, it jumped by +140%.
Popular queries include: “What is Galentine?” “Galentine’s Day gift ideas,” “Is Galentine’s Day for singles?” “Valentine’s Day messages to send to my best friend,” and “Activities to do on Valentine’s Day with friends.”
The shift signals a broader embrace of platonic love, with friend groups planning parties, exchanging letters, and celebrating their inner circles.
4. Long-Distance Love Is Thriving
Love across time zones is also trending. In the first week of February, searches for “Valentine’s messages for boyfriend long distance” spiked by +380%.
Queries like “What can a girl buy for her boyfriend on Valentine’s Day?” rose by +200%, while “Valentine’s message for a new relationship” increased by +180%.
The data suggests that while distance may physically separate couples, many are turning to Search for the right words and gifts to bridge the gap.
5. Money Bouquets, Bento Cakes, and Big Aesthetics
When it comes to gifting, creativity is key. Searches for “money bouquet for Valentine” are climbing, alongside interest in custom cakes such as “bento cake designs with cupcakes for Valentine,” “Valentine-themed cupcakes,” “Valentine snack box,” and “Valentine cake ideas.”
Other top creative gift searches include nail polish, Valentine gift bags, pink flowers, and handmade gift boxes.
Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Communications Manager for West Africa at Google, said the trends reflect a more intentional approach to celebrating love.
“The 2026 trends show that Nigerians are being more intentional than ever about how they celebrate love — whether that’s celebrating their circle of friends for Galentine’s or putting extra effort into creative, personalised gifts like money bouquets,” he said.
“It’s exciting to see how people are using Search not just to find products, but to find inspiration and the ‘how-to’ for making their celebrations unique.”
