Atiku Abubakar has expressed sadness over the killing of a woman and her six children in Kano’s Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, calling the tragedy senseless and unacceptable.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Atiku expressed his heartbreak over the incident and offered his sympathies to the departed family and impacted community.

“I am heartbroken by the gruesome killing of a mother and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi, Kano. This senseless violence against innocent Nigerians is unacceptable. My thoughts and prayers are with the grieving family and community,” he said.

The former vice president also questioned the effectiveness of current security measures, implying a schism between official directions and action on the ground.

“It is either that the so-called marching orders to the security agencies are not being acted on or that it is merely political talk,” Atiku stated.

He urged security services to act decisively, apprehending those guilty for the deaths and ensuring justice is delivered.

“Security agencies are charged to swiftly bring the perpetrators to justice and for decisive actions to protect every Nigerian from such brutality,” he added.

Atiku also called for an end to the cycle of violence in the country, stressing the need for improved safety and protection of lives.

“We must end the culture of violence and ensure safety for all,” he said.

Chronicle NG reports that the Kano State Police Command arrested three principal suspects in connection with the killing of the housewife and her six children.

The arrests were made following intelligence-led and coordinated actions that took place between the night of January 17 and the early hours of Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Political leaders and civil society groups have continued to denounce the assassination of the woman and her children, with repeated calls for increased security and accountability throughout the country.
