The African Democratic Congress has intensified its attempts to broaden its political reach in preparation for the 2027 general election, inviting former President Goodluck Jonathan, ex-Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other notable political personalities to join the party.

The appeal came after the establishment of the party’s North-East Zonal Congress Committee, which the ADC stated signifies a revitalized effort to enhance its internal frameworks, encourage internal democracy, and realign the party for national governance.

ADC’s factional National Chairman, Nafiu Gombe, revealed this in a statement released on Tuesday following the inauguration event that took place in Gombe State on January 11.

The event, arranged by the party’s national leadership, was chaired by Dr. Muhammad Muhammad.

In the statement, Gombe characterized the inauguration as an essential move to strengthen the party’s foothold in the Northeast and to guarantee transparent and trustworthy congresses throughout the region.

The communiqué stated that the party officially approved and launched important officials to manage the zonal congress procedure.

Gombe stated that the advancement demonstrated the party’s commitment to enhancing internal democracy and creating a reliable platform that can draw Nigerians from various political backgrounds.

He directly urged various sitting governors, veteran politicians, and national leaders to align with the ADC as it establishes itself as an alternative power in Nigeria’s political arena.

He said, “The authentic national leadership of the ADC passionately appeals to and invites the following eminent personalities to join the party in its mission to rebuild and reposition Nigeria.

“Those invited include the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed; the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri; former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan; the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde; the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti; and Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

“The ADC believes their experience, leadership, and patriotism are crucial in uniting efforts to make Nigeria great again.”

The party emphasized its dedication to providing what it called a credible, inclusive, and forward-looking platform centered on effective governance, national unity, and sustainable growth.

It emphasized that it would keep rallying Nigerians from every region in favor of a new political path rooted in accountability, fairness, and the shared goal of restoring Nigeria’s greatness.

The shift occurs during fresh political shifts, occurring just two weeks following the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Peter Obi, joining the David Mark-led ADC, a situation that has intensified speculation regarding developing alliances for the 2027 elections.
