Peter Obi, a former Labour Party presidential candidate, lauded the Super Eagles after they defeated Algeria 2-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Marrakech, Morocco.

The Super Eagles advanced to the semi-finals with a comfortable win over Algeria at the Stade de Marrakech.

The victory sets up a last-four encounter with tournament hosts Morocco, who upset Cameroon in their own quarter-final match.

Nigeria went into the match full of confidence after a convincing 4-0 victory against Mozambique in the Round of 16, having scored 12 goals in four games—the highest tally at the tournament.

From the start, the Super Eagles dominated possession and pressed hard, forcing Algeria to sit deep.

Victor Osimhen spearheaded the assault with quickness and physicality, assisted by Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams, while Alex Iwobi dominated midfield.

Nigeria had many chances in the first half, with Adams wasting a one-on-one opportunity and another being cleared off the line.

Nigeria took the lead in the second half as Osimhen scored with a header.

The Super Eagles then maintained control, with Adams doubling the advantage after being set up by Osimhen, securing a comfortable victory.

In a message on his official X handle on Saturday night, Obi complimented the squad on their outstanding performance and encouraged them to keep their momentum as they pursue the crown.

He wrote, “Huge congratulations to our dear Super Eagles for flying high over the Desert Warriors! A 2–0 victory that sends a clear message to the rest of the continent.

“Clinical finishing, a rock-solid defense, and a rewarding gift to over 200 million people cheering you on.

“The AFCON trophy is within reach! Keep the fire burning. Let’s take this momentum straight into the semi-finals! Up Nigeria!”

The Super Eagles will now face Morocco in the semi-finals as they continue their quest for continental glory.
