Terrorists attacked a village in the Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing seven people and injuring several others on Friday night.
Eyewitnesses informed reporters in Jos on Saturday that the event took place in Bong village, Doemak District, when the attackers conducted a house-to-house attack, targeting women, children, and the elderly.
Residents described the terrorists as well armed, with survivors reporting that the victims were largely those who were unable to flee in time.
Mr. Lawrence Dogari, a member of the local government council, confirmed the attack, saying, “For the time being, I can confirm to you that more than seven people have been killed, and some others remain missing.”
Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, the Director of Press and Publicity for the Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Council, also verified the incident, noting that the death toll could not be determined at this time.
“The council boss, Hon. Christopher Audu Manship, is condemning the attack on innocent persons and is collaborating with security operatives to ensure that the culprits are arrested,” Sylvanus said, adding that the council chairman promised to provide updates as more information becomes available.
The assault on Friday marks the most recent incident in a string of murders executed by armed individuals in Plateau villages lately.
On Christmas Eve, attackers targeted the Bum community in the Jos South Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals.
