The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refuted reports claiming that it has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, describing such information as false and misleading.
In a statement endorsed by the Chief Press Secretary and Media Adviser to the INEC Chairman, Adedayo Oketola, released on Friday, the Commission mentioned that it had not published any timetable or schedule for the 2027 elections, countering claims circulating in certain areas.
INEC emphasized that it functions solely within the legal framework, highlighting that Section 28(1) of the Electoral Act, 2022, requires the Commission to announce an election notice no later than 360 days prior to the scheduled date for a general election.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission wishes to categorically refute reports circulating in some quarters claiming that the Commission has released the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election.

The Commission stated that any timeline or activity schedule supposedly released outside this legal framework could not have been produced by INEC.
The electoral board promised Nigerians that the official agenda and schedule of operations for the 2027 general election will be announced in due course, in complete accordance with the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution of 1999 (as amended) and the Electoral Act of 2022.
INEC further stated that once announced, the timeline would be disseminated through its established and confirmed channels, advising the public and media to avoid false stories and rely solely on information from the commission’s official platforms for accurate and authoritative updates.
