The Kebbi State Government has mandated the reopening of all public and private primary and secondary schools throughout the state for the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session, starting Monday, January 5, 2026.

The directive was released on Friday via distinct statements co-signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Universal Basic Education Board, Isah Ibrahim, and the Deputy Director (Academics) of the Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education, Aliyu Bagarawa.

Remember that the state government, in response to the kidnapping of 25 Maga students in Zuru by armed individuals believed to be bandits, subsequently commanded the closure of all public and private schools in the state.

The statements indicate that the decision reflects the state government’s dedication to maintaining a stable and continuous academic calendar, after the successful conclusion of the session’s first term

“All school administrators, education secretaries, principals, head teachers, teachers, parents, and students are hereby requested to take note of this directive and ensure strict compliance,” the statement partly read.

The government emphasized that sufficient preparations should be conducted before the resumption to ensure a seamless start of educational activities in schools throughout both urban and rural regions of the state.

School leaders have been directed to implement all required measures, including staff and facility preparedness, while parents and guardians were urged to make sure their children and wards return to school on time.

“The cooperation of parents and guardians is critical to achieving the objectives of this directive, as punctual resumption will enhance effective teaching and learning,” the statement added.

In a related circular, zonal education officers, principals, head teachers, and owners of private schools were notified that the initial week of the second term would be dedicated to administering pending first-term examinations.

Regular academic activities and classroom instruction, as stated in the circular, will begin on Monday, January 12, 2026, right after the exams have ended.

The state government additionally cautioned that all schools are required to follow the official resumption timetable and examination calendar strictly, highlighting that monitoring teams will be assigned to guarantee compliance.

Education stakeholders have praised the directive, calling it timely and essential for maintaining academic discipline and enhancing learning results in the state.
