Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri has undergone a minor heart operation.
The ex-Chelsea manager was found to have atrial fibrillation, an issue that influences the heart’s rhythm, with Italian sources stating it was a standard procedure.
The club anticipates that the 66-year-old will resume his usual responsibilities in the coming days.
In June 2025, Sarri was named manager of Lazio for the second time.
Lazio are in eighth place in Serie A, having secured six victories from 17 games, and will face Napoli at home on Sunday (11:30 GMT).
Sarri started coaching at minor Italian clubs while also working as a banker before leaving his daytime job in the early 2000s to pursue his coaching career.
He managed Empoli’s rise to Italy’s top division in 2013-14 and then guided his hometown team Napoli to two second-place results within three years.
After joining Chelsea in 2018-19, he secured the Europa League title and reached the Carabao Cup final with the team.
He came back to Italy after one season and secured Serie A with Juventus in 2019-20.
Sarri started his initial tenure at Lazio in June 2021 and guided them to a second-place result in 2022-23 before resigning in March 2024.
