The US on Thursday, 25th December 2025, carried out airstrikes against Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists in Sokoto State, Nigeria.

The airstrike was carried out at the direction of the President of the United States and the Secretary of War, and in coordination with Nigerian authorities, U.S. Africa Command conducted the strikes against ISIS terrorists.

The command’s initial assessment is that multiple ISIS terrorists were killed in the ISIS camps.

“U.S. Africa Command is working with Nigerian and regional partners to increase counterterrorism cooperation efforts related to ongoing violence and threats against innocent lives,” said Gen. Dagvin Anderson, commander, U.S. Africa Command. “Our goal is to protect Americans and to disrupt violent extremist organizations wherever they are.”

The attack against terrorists in Nigeria comes after President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the wanton targeted killings of Christians in Nigeria.

Trump had redesignated Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern’ in response to allegations of a Christian genocide in the country.

The US president announced his decision in a Truth Social post on Friday.

“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed,” Trump said.

He blamed radical Islamists for the “mass slaughter.”

“I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN,’” he declared.

Trump said when Christians are slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 worldwide), something must be done.

The US president did not mention where he cited the figures from.

“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria and numerous other countries,” he added.

Trump said he would ask Congressmen Riley Moore and Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee to immediately look into this matter.
