President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16.

Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, confirmed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

According to the release, Dr. Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been named Chairman of the Commission.

Oseni, who joined the board as a commissioner in January 2017 and later became vice chairman, will take office as chairman on December 1, 2025.

His tenure will last until the end of his 10-year term, as mandated by the Electricity Act of 2023.

Dr. Yusuf Ali was appointed Vice Chairman of the Commission.

Ali, who was initially appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, began his current post on December 1, 2025, and will serve until the conclusion of his first term.

Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr. Dafe Akpeneye, and Mrs. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello are also on the reformed board, all of whom are serving second terms as commissioners.

Shatti and Akpeneye were initially appointed in January 2017, while Bello was appointed in December 2020.

Dr. Chidi Ike, who was appointed as commissioner in February 2022, is also on the list.

Dr. Fouad Animashaun was also named a commissioner, with his appointment taking effect in December 2025.

Animashaun, an energy economist, previously served as executive commissioner and CEO of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has charged the board members of NERC to deepen and consolidate the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict alignment with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023,” the statement read.
